MINUTES
JUNEAU COUNTY EAA CHAPTER 1365
March 16, 2011  (reporting February)

President Tom Chudy called the meeting to order at 7:02 P.M. at the Mauston-New Lisbon Terminal Airport Building 82C.

Treasurer’s Report:  The Treasurer’s Report was distributed and reviewed.  Motion to approve as presented by Loretta Trenshaw and seconded by Roger Dutzle.  Motion carried, February Treasurer’s Report approved.
Minutes:  The Minutes were distributed and reviewed.  Motion to approve as presented by Jack Jasinski and seconded by Steve Mesner.  Motion carried, February Minutes approved.

Old Business

Raffle Renewal:  Paperwork completed and sent with check
Membership Renewal:  23 members so far.
Oshkosh Renewal Forms:  Paperwork complete and sent with check.
State of WI annual report:  Paperwork completed and sent.
Banquet Update:  Lori reserved a room at the Best Western for our banquet speaker, Peter Buffington.
Chapter Facility:  Evaluation on building has been completed by MSA.  WE hope the appraisal will be done by April 1st.  Survey – Some concerns about electrical – GFI breakers needed.  Additional acres for facility not needed at this time.

New Business

After 5:  Tom will contact chambers and try for a May or June date.  Discussion about tablecloth and/or trophy to put on tables to announce EAA Chapter for events like the chili cook-off.
Communications:  Young Eagle Day is Saturday June 25th.  Remind Tom to add Elroy Display Case to next month’s agenda.
Tech Report:  Cary’s thinking of putting one piece aluminum for landing gear.  Jack suggested using Cub.  Paul and Sharyn bought a Husky in WY and flew it back.
Education:  Steve will present safety seminar next month at the meeting.  Bring your log books.
Additional business:  Fly-in committee will start to meet next month.  Turkey and deer can be a problem on the runway.

Treasurer’s Report:  The Treasurer’s Report was distributed and reviewed.  Motion to approve as presented by Jack Jasinski and seconded by Mike Gallob.  Motion carried, December Treasurer’s Repot approved.
Minutes:  The Minutes were distributed and reviewed.  Motion to approve with spelling correction (Andy Lanorette) by Mike Gallob and seconded by Loretta Trenshaw.  Motion carried, December Minutes approved.

Old Business

Tim Salzwedel:  Tom had a plaque made up with a picture of the Chapter members on the tarmack and a dedication to Tim Salzwedel.  Plaque will be mailed soon.
Chapter Facility:  Cary has made a formal request to the Airport Commission for hangar space for our Chapter Facility once the building is acquired. Airport Commission response was positive and will consider renting space.  AC is buying two extra acres to comply with regulations.
New Lisbon Mayor’s Chili Cook-off:  Oshkosh has event also:  ski planes and chili.
Banquet:  Invites will go out this weekend.  Volk Field presenter may be different than the one named on information being sent out.

New Business

Tech report:  FAA determined that flutter caused the problems with the “Zodiac”
Education:  Re-registration requirements for General Aviation Aircraft are new.  Letter will arrive in the mail.  FAA might require a picture pilot license.  EAA has come out against this policy.
Project Updates:  Rick Velo’s “Furry” has wings on it and a new prop.  You can visit it in Cary’s hangar.  Cary has to remove landing gear from “Duce” because it is overweight.
Additional Business:  The Elroy Public Library will provide a glass case for us to promote Young Eagles for the month of June.  JoAnn will accept items for the display.  The case will be locked.

Motion to retain officers as seated by Lois Lange and seconded by Nancy Knickelbein.  Motion carried, officers agreed to another term.
Chapter Facility:  The Airport Commission has extended an offer to purchase an existing  hangar to use as a SRE building.  When the purchase becomes final and the Mauston New Lisbon Union Airport actually has an SRE building there has been some discussion about the chapter obtaining  part of that SRE building to use as a shop and meeting place of which terms and conditions have not been brought forth for discuaaion.    There is a concern by some chapter members that there may  be an issue concerning a conflict of interest due to the fact that 4 of the 5 members of the airport commission are also Chapter members.  Tom Chudy will talk to the Commission and we will need contract agreement or lease to use part of the hangar for our Chapter Facility.
Website:  We need to get information to Chris Zindorf to put on the Website.  Steve and Lorna Mesner volunteered to be archivists and send things to Chris Zindorf.  Steve will have outline of what he needs.
Tim Salzwedel:  Tim got our pictures from the fly-in.  Tim is going to be sending a Flag that has flown over Bagdad back to the chapter.
Additional Business:  Hugh Schmitt is doing well.  JoAnn Blonien will keep some get well and sympathy cards in her briefcase so Chapter has some on hand to sign and send out.
Next Meeting:  Friday December 17, 2010 our annual Christmas Party will be held at the Necedah Airport in Cary Winch’s hangar.  Jack Jasinski made a motion to spend $150 on Christmas Party and it was Seconded by Lois Lange.  Motion passed.

Old Business
Nominations:  Officer positions up for election include President, Secretary, Treasurer, and 2 Directors at Large.  Officers offered to continue in their positions.  Jack Jasinski suggested that there be more incentives from EAA for officers to continue their hard work.  It was suggested that he call Steve Bruss.
Mailing to Tim Salzwedel:  Tom is collecting photos and there was discussion of a plaque.

New Business
Additional Business:  Next month Loretta Trenshaw will have dinner options for the Henry Brandeau Memorial the last Saturday in February.  Mark your calendars.
Next Meeting:  November 17, 2010 at the Terminal Airport Building.

Minutes:  The Minutes were distributed and reviewed.  Motion to approve as presented by Loretta Trenshaw and Seconded by Steve Mesner.  Motion carried, August Minutes approved.

Old Business
Jimmy Klien Ride:  A few people were interested in the the Kit Fox and the Norton Motor.  We got some good exposure and Dennis Nielson thanks us for the display.
Fly-in 2010:  We received $150 from the crafters and they were happy with sales and turnout at the event.  Advertising for fly-in may be in “Barnstormers”, “Trade-a-Plane” and Midwest Flyer”.  Room Tax wants our adds to go out of the area.  Most attendance was from on-line sources.  About $1400 was spent on advertising.  Tom is trying to get PA System installed compliments of the Airport Commission because the band was hard to hear.  We can look into a different band or maybe a disc jockey.  Weather was a big factor in lower attendance.  We don’t know how well the Lions did. They had to throw away 4 pans of eggs, but lunch trade was steady.  It was windy and cool.
Facility building:  Airport Commission is now considering a NEW building 50X60 expandable. The chapter will look into available room in this facility.  We will have to finish it off if we are to rent and use it.

 

New Business
Officers up for election:  President, Treasurer, Secretary, Directors at Large (2 positions).  This is a notification. Nominations are coming.
Meeting Time:  New meeting time was proposed, but it will remain at 7:00 pm 3rd Wed.
Communications:  Don Schwartz is selling a Piper Cherokee with 100 hours on the engine and a new paint job.  Tim Salzwedel sent email, says Hi to all.  He said the dry heat is 140.  Maybe we could send a plaque and a care package.
Additional Business:  We got a positive response from military at Volk Field, but that isn’t the right place for us to do a Young Eagle Program.  A display of GA Aircraft might be better.
Maybe we should try a chili event with skis.

Old Business
Volk Field Open House:  No problem coming in through the front gate…no need to fill out form.  Brendan’s wife and children will help with YE.  Flights are 8 am to 2 pm then the air show will take place.  May fly YE after air show.  Lorna Mesner needs someone to preflight.  Lori Trenshaw volunteered to preflight and plane will be there.  Tom will have our fly-in posters and club membership forms at the booth.
Jimmy Klien Ride:  Set up booth 7 am August 28th in Riverside Park, Mauston.  Will be finished 10 am.
Fly-in 2010:  Sponsorships include Room Tax and Oakdale Electric. Doc Hoffmann will supervise and collect demographic information.  He would like 8 volunteers.  Ted Ralph will picked up totes and clipboards to be used for fly-in and Young Eagles.  Raffle tickets will be sold $3 each, or 4 for $10.  Lori Trenshaw and JoAnn Blonien will handle raffle.  Fly-in set up starts about 3 pm Friday, Tear down Saturday after fly-in.  Dave Seitz will pick up tables. Port-o-potties rented from Castle Rock Sanitation. Will be renting a garbage dumpster from Clark Disposal.  Tractor wagon hayride to RC is set.  Spot Landing Contest 11:30-12:00.  Need PA System to narrate.  Print 40 tickets to give to pilots when they get their breakfast tickets. Small plaque for winner.  Dave Seitz has tire crayons.  Maybe Ron S. can get ball chalker.  Gene Tomaszewski  will be on the radio directing air traffic.  Lorna Mesner will handle the paper airplane contest for the kids.  Piston toss is a possible new addition.

Old Business
Chapter Facility:  Airport Commission is getting bids on brand new building.  Another hanger may also be for sale.
YE Day: All 15 or 16 young eagles were first-timers and some were very interested.  It went well and was a safe day.  Brat sale ($33 profit) is a must at YE Day.  Workers had a picnic too.  June is YE month and we will try to keep it there.
Fly-in:  Advertising is covered.   Raffle tickets are $5 each or 3 for $10.  We can use gas cards for fuel. Cindy Seitz to check with Parker regarding the use of their picnic tables, if it is ok to use Dave Seitz will pick up tables, Tom will arrange for port-o-potties.  Antique cars will sign in name, address etc. and Tom will order 150 dash plaques. Cars and airplanes will get one free meal.  Jack Jasinski has access to a car crashed by a train that could be on display.  Jesse might get a car that rolls a dummy out.  Tom motioned that Ted Ralph to pick up some clip boards and totes.  Jack seconded and motion passed. Steve wants to run a spot landing contest.  Insurance will handle spot landing.  Also we will have a paper airplane building and flying contest for the kids (coloring for the younger set).  A piston pitch will be run by Jesse Stout.  Don Schwartz will film and take pictures of the entire event.
Volk Field YE Day:  Saturday August 21st, 2010.  Tom, Steve, Dave and Don Schwartz are flying .
Jimmy Klein Ride:  Saturday August 28th, 2010.  No fly-over.  No float plane.  We will have a booth on display.  7 am set-up.

New Business
AirVenture:  You can get a CD on your aircraft history at the FAA building.
Project Update:  Cary’s plane is overweight.  Ron Seitz lowered his landing gear.
Next Meeting:  August 18th, 2010 at 7 pm at Tom’s hanger.

Old Business
Chapter Facility:  Nothing to report as of yet. Airport commission still working retails out.
After 5:  Take a look at gas grill, clean valve. New Lisbon Chamber said thanks for hosting After 5.
YE Day:  June 26, 2010 starts at 8:00 am. Lorna Mesner is chairman. Insurance form is done. Pilots include Tom Chudy, Steve Mesner, Dave Seitz, and Don Schwartz.  Steve’s student pilot will do pre flight. Set up on Friday night. Computer and printer help for certificates is needed.  Brat Fry:  We will use Steve’s list of food.  Tom will will purchase.  Tom will try to get radio and newspaper to promote.  Cary will cook, Lois will face paint and maybe a static display of RC aircraft if available.
Fly-in:  Tom is working on advertising.  Next meeting is June 30th.
Fly-in Volk Field:  Saturday August 21st, 2010.  You have to fill out forms to fly in.  Our Chapter will have a tent to promote our Fly-in . Chapter 1365 will be providing Young Eagle rides.
Jimmy Klien Ride:  Saturday August 28th, 2010 8:00-9:30 am.  We need to set up booth, have posters of our Fly-in and display cases.

New Business
Communications/Educational Materials:  FAA CD’s 1) Maintenance for A & P’s.
2) Runway Incursions, taxiways, what you should be doing (paying attention).
Tech Report:  Project updates:  1) Ted has drilled out 2000 rivets and now has to rebuild the spar.  Jack has a wing rack that Ted can use.  2) Something is wrong with the rigging on Cary’s Duce.  It gets off the ground, but doesn’t climb.  Weight and balance issues.  Much discussion.

Minutes:  The Minutes from April were distributed and reviewed.  Motion to approve as presented by Cary Winch and seconded by Lois Lange.  Motion carried, the April Minutes approved.

Old Business
Chapter Facility:  The appraisal is done on the brown hanger.  Tom will find out the numbers.
After 5:  The date was changed to May 27th. Johnny Walker will order food and Harlow Gierhart will pick it up.  Dave Seitz has offered chairs and tables.  Set up will begin at 3:00pm day of event.
Young Eagle Day:  June 26th is YE Day and we will discuss this next month.  Friday night will be set up.  Event starts at 8:00am.  We will have a brat fry.
Fly-In:  Tom Schwartz  is first to look into purchasing advertising.  Advertising costs:  WRJC= $564.35, GA News= $1120.  City of New Lisbon has to come through with the money.  Larry Moore will talk to the car people.  Tom Chudy is doing some promotional things for sponsors.  For $250, sponsor gets name on poster, newspaper recognition and WRJC announcements during event.  For $500 sponsor gets a booth plus above.  For $750 adds on radio plus all above.
Fly-In Volk Field:  Young Eagle Day is set at Volk.
Chapter Safety Program:  No report.

New Business
Communication/Education:  Notams for AirVenture and DVD’s from FAA for Ted Ralph.  Taxiway (ground work and blacktop) will start in early June and end in August.  Members that want blacktop should make their needs be known.  There will be a Notam for this work.  The airport Commission will take care of this.
Project Update:  Introductiion to brown brick on AirVenture grounds.  Our Chapter can be part of this.  Discussion followed on price and size wanted.
Additional Business:  Deployment Party for Tim Salzwedel at his home on Sat. June 12th.  We will bring a dish to pass if attending.  FlyIn at Winch Field is May 22nd.  Antique & Classic EAA Chapter 640 is hosting.  Lunch and meeting.

Minutes:  The minutes from March were distributed and reviewed.  Motion to approve as presented by Cary Winch, seconded by Jack Jasinski.  Motion carried, March  minutes approved.

Old Business
Chapter Facility:  Tom and Cary inventoried facility assets.  We could make a list of materials needed so members could keep an eye out for sweet deals.  Items like break and shear for starters.  Airport Commission has hired appraiser that will be done next week on brown hanger.
After 5:  Tom will contact Dave Seitz for chairs and tables.  Tom will call John Walker to cook the brats.  Ted will help set up.  Harlow offered to cook.  Meeting to finalize plans is set for 6:00 pm on May 6th.
Young Eagle Day:  Saturday June 26th.  Lorna Mesner has volunteered to chair this event as well as the Volk Field YE portion of their Fly-In.
Brat Fray:  Table for now.
Camping at AirVenture:  This is a Steve Mesner question – No new news.
Safety:  Carol Garceau will handle this for our Fly-In.  EAA doesn’t have much to offer on this topic.  Tom checked with Steve Buss.

Communications:  Poster and letter from Paul Poberezny – This can be hung on wall at Chapter Facility.  Tom will contact Doug Wells to frames and put “EAA Chapter 1365” on frame.
Oshkosh Work Party:  Volunteer to help fix up the AirVenture grounds. Free room and board for Sat. – Sun.  Ted is interested.
Kid Fest and EAA Oshkosh Member of the Year:  Not interested.
Tech Report:  Webinars are well done on different skills.  There is a calendar of Webinars on EAA website.  Educational programs on health and safety to be given by Doc. Hoffmann when he is able to attend.
Jimmy Klien Ride:  Motorcycle ride starts at Riverside Park, Mauston and ends in Lansing, IA.  We can display/advertise Fly-In at the park.  Maybe Bill Bires will land with his float Plane on the lake.

President Tom Chudy called the meeting to order 7:03 pm at the Terminal Airport Building 82C.

Treasurer’s Report:  The Treasurer’s Report from February was distributed and reviewed. Motion to approve as presented by Mike Gallob and seconded by Cary Winch.  Motion carried.  February Treasurer’s Report approved.
Minutes:  The February Minutes were distributed and reviewed.  Motion to approve as presented by Loretta Trenshaw and seconded by Lois Lange.  Motion carried. February Minutes approved.
Old Business
Banquet:  Loretta Trenshaw will continue to be the Chair, and Banquet has been changed to the last Saturday in February.
Chapter Facility:  A certain hanger is being considered for purchase by the Mauston Airport commission. Should the purchase take place the Chapter will approach the commission with a request to share the hanger.
After 5:  Our date is May 13th. Need a chairperson.  We took our display to the NL After 5 on March 11th.  Could we do the same at our After 5 at the airport?  Some kind of program?
YE Day:  Our date is June 26th.  Need a chairperson.  Table until next month.
Brat Fry:  So far we have May 15th.  JoAnn Blonien will come back with pricing from Hansen’s IGA in Elroy.
Whooping Crane Hanger Damage:  It’s not a high priority with the sheriff’s department.  Someone from NY covered the damage.  Remove from agenda.
Camping at AirVenture:  The “Stake-Out” program made long-time campers mad.  If you want to volunteer at AirVenture, Tom has packet from EAA.
Fly-In:  First meeting will be March 31st.  We got $2500 commitment from the Mauston room tax committee in writing.
New Business
Fly-In Volk Field:  August 21st.  Lorna Mesner has volunteered to chair the YE at this event.  We will have a booth with display.  Tom would like a contingent of airplanes.
Safety:  Ambulance, fire truck and Sgt. at Arms or safety officer on grounds for fly-in. We can ask EAA for description of what we need to do, protocol and training safety film. We also need a fire extinguisher.  Is the Sheriff’s Dept. notified when we have events?
Communications:  April 10th Oshkosh Whitman Fly-In.  Carol Garceau says it’s well attended.  They have YE, breakfast and a good time. Other Fly-Ins in the area include Reedsburg, WI and Urbana IL.  Taxiway will be done early August.
Tech Report:  Ted Ralph still doesn’t have the parts he needs and there’s a long waiting list.  Ted did the web program with Joe Norris.

Chapter Facility: Tom and Cary will get together to make a list of Chapter Facility Assets for the Treasurer’s Report

Young Eagle Day:  Saturday June 26th was chosen for Young Eagle Day. We need a chairperson for this event.  Table until next month.
Banquet: Program speaker still to be determined.
Fly-in: Fly-in is the 4th of September.  Meetings will start soon.
New Lisbon Mayor’s Chili Cook-off: Jo won in the “Bread” category and will have her name and EAA Chapter 1365 on the Mayor’s placket.
Brat Fry:  Saturday May 15th is possible for Festival Foods.  Tom will check.  Jo will check at Hanson’s IGA in Elroy.
Whooping Crane Hanger Vandalism:  Under investigation – so they say.  Cary and Jack were not contacted by authorities. Reward tabled.

New Business
Camping at AirVenture:  Cary said they will put us out in the “North 40”.
Safety:  Jack suggested we have protocol for meetings and events.  Everyone should be aware of exits, who will do CPR and call 911.  Tom and Ted said they’re going to Oshkosh for the FAA Safety Seminar.
March After 5:  March 11th in New Lisbon.  Ted will send pictures to Cary of his homebuilt.  Cary will start getting display cases together.
Communication:  Pilot license is no longer paper.  You need to get a plastic one without Social Security number on it.  “Through the Fence” a new communication from FAA is causing unenforceable legislation.
Additional Business:  Lois Lang, our face painter at the fly-in will have free chapter membership  this year.  A big “thank you” to Ted Ralph!!!!!!!!!

Treasurer’s Report:  The Treasurer’s Report from December and the new budget estimates for 2010 were distributed and reviewed. Motion to approve as presented by Lorna Mesner and seconded by Harlow Gierhart.  Motion carried.  It was suggested by Cary Winch that we get a set of books started and include a line of ASSESTS on the Treasurer’s Report.  Holly Winch was volunteered to do the books.
Minutes:  The December Minutes were distributed and reviewed.  Motion to approve as presented by Cary Winch and seconded by Lorna Mesner.  Motion carried.

Old Business

Chapter Facility: Nothing new.
After 5’s 2010:   May 13th is set for New Lisbon After 5.  Mauston is filled up for the year.

Fly-in:  Tom Chudy will approach the New Lisbon room tax committee same as Mauston Room Tax committee.  Fly-in is the 4th of September.  Harlow will be the liaison between the chapter and the Mauston  Lyons.  Steve and Lorna want to be on the Fly-in committee this year.  Volk Field will NOT be donating picnic tables, tent, or port-o-lets.  Tom will ask Mauston and New Lisbon for picnic tables.
New Lisbon Mayor’s Chili Cook-off: Members that will try to attend include Tom Chudy, Steve and Lorna Mesner, Frank Kablau and JoAnn Blonien.

Chamber of Commerce:  Tom will get the renewal notices to JoAnn
Additional Business: The Necedah Lyon’s Club has about $3000 reward for capture of those who did damage to Whooping Crane Untra Lights and hanger.  We might want to add to the reward.

Treasurer’s Report:  The Treasurer’s Report from November was distributed and reviewed. Motion to approve as presented by JoAnn Blonien and seconded by Tina Moore.  Motion carried.

Minutes:  The November Minutes were distributed and reviewed.  Motion to approve as presented by Cary Winch and seconded by Mike Gallob.  Motion carried.

 

Old Business

 

Chapter Facility:  Equipment from Necedah Screw is in Cary’s hanger and can be inspected after the meeting.

After 5’s 2010:  July is not available for After 5 in New Lisbon.  We will try to take Thursday May 13th.  Steve Mesner said that the brat fry was usually that weekend also.

Young Eagle Day:  Saturday June 26th was chosen for Young Eagle Day.  Young Eagles are ages 7-17.

Banquet:  Loretta Trenshaw agreed to be the committee chairman for the banquet.

Fly-in:  Tom Chudy requested $3000 from Mauston for our Fly-in in fall.

Officers:  Cary Winch was officially installed as Vice President of EAA Chapter 1365 for a 2 year term.

 

New Business

 

Chamber of Commerce:  We will renew our memberships in the Mauston and New Lisbon Chambers of Commerce.

Mayor’s Chili Cook-off:  Saturday Jan 23rd is the Chili Cook-off.  So far, Tom and Steve will be taking chili this year.

Communications:  Tom Chudy was chosen as Secretary of the Board for the Airport Commission.
